Randy Brown and Tyler Green recently were invited to attend USA Baseball's National Team Identification Series in Cary, N.C. The four-day event attracted top players in their age groups from around the country, and is used to identify players who may be selected to represent the United States on a national team. Brown and Green are freshmen at Williamsville North High School.

The University at Buffalo baseball team will host prospect camps on Sunday for 2010 graduates, and on Oct. 4 for 2011 and 2012 graduates. Each camp gives prospects a chance to display their abilities and talents through a professional style workout. College coaches from Division I, II and III, as well as junior college and professional scouts, will be invited to evaluate all participants. The camps will be held at Amherst Audubon Field, adjacent to the Pepsi Center with registration beginning at 8:30 a.m. The rain site for the camp is Alumni Arena. Cost is $89 per session. The Park School will host a basketball clinic 9 a.m. to noon Saturday in the school gym to benefit Owen's Toybox at the Center for Pediatric Hematology & Oncology at Women and Children's Hospital.

Owen's Toybox provides toys and electronics to young patients at the hospital.

Skip Brown enjoyed 20 successful seasons as head baseball coach at AACC and also served as the school's athletic director. Luis Grillo spent 20 seasons as a referee in the National Basketball Association. Theresa Vermillion-Johnson is a record- setting duckpin bowler with numerous professional titles to her credit.
Those four standouts will be formally enshrined as part of the 19th annual NHL Zdeno Chara Jersey Anne Arundel County Sports Hall of Fame banquet, being held Oct. 21 at Michael's Eighth Avenue.
"This is a very distinguished class with four individuals Zdeno Chara Jersey Stanley Cup who truly achieved excellence in their respective fields of endeavor," Anne Arundel County Sports Hall of Fame president Bernie Walter said.
Burnett starred at the Wroxeter School and St. Mary's and was a three-time high school All-American. The Baltimore-metro area Player of the Year as a senior in 1979 earned a scholarship to the University of North Carolina and became a four-time All-American on attack.
Blessed with a lightning-quick first step, outstanding change-of- direction moves and a slick stick, Burnett still ranks third on Carolina's career list with 190 points and second with 106 assists. Burnett was named first team All-American in 1981 and '82 after leading Carolina to the national championship in both of those seasons. He was a three-time All-ACC selection.

Brown compiled a remarkable record of 368-153 (.706 winning percentage) with seven Maryland JuCo Conference championships, two Region XX crowns and two Northeast District titles. He led the Pioneers to third place in the NJCAA National Tournament in 1974. The Annapolis native was particularly proud that 25 products of the Anne Milan Lucic Jersey Finals Arundel program signed professional contracts.

WATERVILLE -- In an era of hyperbole, while the word "legend" is tossed around loosely, two local friends are the real deal.
John Winkin, "the Little General," whose University of Maine baseball teams were the sports story of the state from the mid-1970s through the late '80s. And Dick McGee, the great Lawrence and Colby football coach, whose contribution to youth sports in Fairfield spawned an athletic complex named in his honor.
They still "chum around," these two, who became Colby coaching brethren when Winkin hired McGee in 1967. Winkin was Colby's athletic director at the time, and McGee was an assistant Milan Lucic Jersey Stanley Cup coach at Bowdoin.
"When I became AD, I went right after him," Winkin said Wednesday, as the two old friends chatted outside Lakewood Manor Nursing Home. "He had a way with kids. He captured their enthusiasm for playing a sport."
Winkin, 88, has lived at Lakewood since early last year, taking up residence shortly after suffering a stroke that ended his 54-year college coaching career.
McGee, 79, is recovering from a stroke he suffered earlier this summer. But Bruins Nathan Horton Jersey he still walks the treadmill at the Colby gymnasium.
"He was jogging before it was fashionable," says daughter Kelly LaFlamme.
And Winkin sports a tan that tells much about his lifestyle. Wilson High School's baseball coaches may have a difficult legal hill to climb in Nathan Horton Jersey their planned false-arrest lawsuits against the State Police and the City of Lockport.
Two prominent local attorneys who have won false-arrest suits, but who are not connected Shawn Marion Jersey with these cases, said it doesn't matter that the charges against Thomas J. Baia and William M. Atlas eventually were dropped.
The attorneys said the winning standard is whether police had probable cause to make an arrest, based on accusations they considered believable at the time.
Baia and Atlas were charged with endangering the welfare of a child for allegedly failing to prevent assaults by varsity players Zdeno Chara Finals Jersey on junior varsity players during a team bus ride April 17, 2008.
